I haven’t posted much since my stroke. Partially because my life has been quite fluid since, and also because screen time often causes “silent migraines” – migraine symptoms like nausea, sensitivity to light and sound, and extreme fatigue. I was lucky to have so few after effects from the stroke.
To aid my recovery, I began making small sculptures which are quite different from my previous art. The sculptures just happened as the stroke seems to have unlocked a sculptural ability. Most of my current pieces are small sculptures of cryptid creatures – both cultural cryptids (which probably don’t biologically exist), and cryptozoological animals (which might actually exist but are not scientifically proven) and of imaginary beasts. They are usually made of rocks, shells, gar scales, epoxy clay, Cosclay and polymer clay. Many of them have features that show up only under UV light. Making them has been integral to my healing and exceptionally fun!
I was recently informed that 7 of my creature sculptures have been accepted for an upcoming show at Tsuga: Fine Art and Framing, Starting in early November. I would like to share them with you.

Psalter Hatbird. Mixed Media Sculpture (Cosclay; wood stand, ceramic tile base, Swarovski crystal eyes, acrylic frame) This bird graces the margins of the Luttrell Psalter c. 1320–1340 as shown in the frame.

Diva. Mixed Media Sculpture (rock, polymer clay, resin base, Swarovski crystal eyes)

Carpet Sharktopus. Mixed Media Sculpture (Cosclay, acrylic eyes). This happened because of a photo of a carpet shark and I wondered what added eyes and tentacles would look like.

Ms “Excuse Me?” Mixed Media Assemblage (vase, acrylic base, found objects, Swarovski crystal eyes)

Madam Peaclock. Mixed Media Assemblage (clock, found objects, wooden spoons)

Shell Mantis. Mixed Media Sculpture. (Wire, epoxy clay, shells, jade eyes)

Sensei. Mixed Media Sculpture (rocks, epoxy clay, resin base)
I hope to post more artwork in the near future. Thank you for viewing!
